Former NOPD officer pleads guilty to sex crime charges

By Travers Mackel

Pratt sentenced to three years, credited for time served
NEW ORLEANS —A former New Orleans police officer pleaded guilty on Friday to two counts of sexual battery and one count of unlawful carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
A suspended New Orleans police officer was indicted on Thursday by a grand jury on accusations of sexually assaulting a girl.
A judge sentenced Desmond Pratt to three years in prison but credited him for time served. Pratt has been in jail for more than a year while awaiting trial.
The one-time NOPD homicide detective worked high profile cases that included the investigation into activities involving Telly Hankton, who has been described as one of the most influential criminal figures in the city.
A grand jury indicted Pratt last August. At the time, the then-42-year-old Pratt was already on suspension from his post at the NOPD, where he had worked since 1997.
His most recent assignment was in the Sixth District

2 former St. George officers disciplined

A panel tasked with disciplining Utah police is handing down sanctions to 12 officers and two dispatchers.
Domestic violence, drunken driving and inappropriate texting with a high school boy were among the cases of misconduct considered Thursday by the Peace Officer Standards and Training Council.
Former St. George school resource officer Brandon Haws had his license permanently revoked after telling the council he sent lewd photos to a 17-year-old high school student.
Haws, whose father died when he was 4 years old, was trying to help the boy whose own father was killed in a car accident, said Haws' attorney, Lindsay Jarvis.
Haws, 34, said he and the boy exchanged text messages and communicated through social media but said he was not trying to start a sexual relationship with the teen.
The Deseret News reports the council also took away certification from William M. Barney, a former Utah County sheriff's deputy, for having a sex with a woman who was on probation.
Cache Miller, a former Garfield County sheriff's deputy, also had his certification revoked for two years for assaulting his wife in front of their children.
Former St. George police officer Rick B. Goulding had his certification suspended for three years for having sex while on duty.
An officer and a dispatcher each had their certifications suspended for 18 months for DUIs. They are Wayne County sheriff's deputy Craig W. Brown and Unified Police Department dispatcher Chastity T. Corona.
Others were suspended for disorderly conduct, falsifying a police report and trespassing, among other offenses.

Baltimore police officer charged with sex offenses involving teen

Howard County police said the charges stem from a tip regarding the prostitution of a 14-year-old girl in Columbia.
Detectives said they believe Hagee contacted the girl through a phone number posted to an online prostitution advertisement. Police believe the two exchanged text messages before meeting at his Columbia home and engaging in sexual activity on three separate occasions between January and May 2013.
Police said Hagee posted bail, which was set at $75,000, on Wednesday and was released from jail.
The Baltimore Police Department has confirmed Hagee is a 19-year veteran assigned to the Special Enforcement Section. He has been suspended without pay.
Police have not yet released a photo of Hagee.
"It's sickening, it really is," said neighbor Paul Reitmeyer, who never suspected something like that from the man known as the cop in the neighborhood. He said Hagee mostly kept to himself.
"He helped me out. We had been robbed a couple of months back, and he was helpful to tell us, 'Hey, I saw some people in the neighborhood,'" Reitmeyer said.
"That scares me, too, because my daughter, she has the latest iPhone and her laptop and all in her room, so that just kind of makes me think that I need to watch out a little more to see what's going on," said neighbor Jamie Palermo.  "Just the idea of a police officer or a man or anybody in general doing this to children just kind of makes you sick."
Howard County detectives are trying to find out if there are more victims in the case. Police encourage anyone else who may have been a victim of Hagee's to contact them at 410-313-2630.
Hagee's arrest came a month after the arrest of one of his coworkers, Kevin Simmons, 40, who police said offered an undercover Baltimore County detective money for sex.
