IRWINDALE,
California — A former Southern California police officer has been charged with
molesting a 14-year-old girl in his department's Explorer Program.
Authorities
say ex-Irwindale officer Daniel Camerano began a relationship with the girl
while he was an adviser to the program. The eight-year department veteran also
allegedly sent sexually suggestive text messages to another female Explorer.
He's
charged with a half-dozen counts, including a felony of using a minor for sex
acts, and faces nearly 5 ½ years in prison if convicted.
Camerano,
who resigned this week, was arrested Wednesday but is free on bail.
It
wasn't immediately clear whether he'd obtained an attorney.
