cop accused of sexually assaulting young girl
GRAND JUNCTION — A
former Grand Junction police officer and firefighter has been arrested on
allegations he repeatedly sexually assaulted a young girl.
The Grand Junction
Daily Sentinel reports 42-year-old Eric Janusz surrendered Friday and faces
several counts of sexual assault on a child by a person in a position of trust.
Police spokeswoman
Kate Porras says the alleged abuse happened while Janusz was a patrol officer
between 1996 and 2006. No other details were released because the arrest
affidavit is sealed.
Janusz left the
department in 2006 and joined the city's fire department, which he left in
February due to a workers' compensation separation.
The newspaper
reports a man who answered Janusz's cellphone Friday declined to identify
himself and hung up. The complaint was filed in the fall, and the accuser is
now an adult.
