Suspended NJ cop accused of trying to lure girl, 12, pleads guilty to official misconduct

PATERSON, New Jersey — Steven Vigorito Jr, a suspended New Jersey cop accused of propositioning a 12-year-old girl for sex has pleaded guilty to official misconduct and attempted aggravated assault. Vigorito said that he met the girl when her family brought her to the Woodland Park police station in 2012 to report she was sneaking out of the house with her 17-year-old boyfriend. The 41-year-old said he gave her his phone number. Vigorito admitted to sending sexual messages to what he thought was the girl's number.  

Former Monroe police sergeant charged for sex crimes with teen

Carlos Martinez, a Monroe cop faces multiple felony charges for a nearly decade-long sexual relationship with a young girl that began when she was only 14. WSP Lt. Ron Mead says Martinez, "used his position of authority as a law enforcement cop to isolate and manipulate the young girl into the relationship."Martinez served with the department for 20 years, spending nine years in elementary and middle schools as a Drug Abuse Resistance Education cop, The Everett Herald reported. Investigators learned Martinez photographed the victim without her knowing it while she used the bathroom. He also allegedly continued to take pictures and videos while involved in "sexually explicit conduct."

Nashville cop pleads guilty on child porn charge

Nashville William J. Patterson pleaded guilty to distribution of child pornography in federal court this week. Patterson was taken into federal custody last year after an investigation by Nashville police uncovered 7,300 images and approximately 300 videos depicting the sexual exploitation of very young girls in his possession, according to David Rivera, acting U.S. attorney for the middle district of Tennessee.

Mpls Officer Charged with Sex Abuse Appears in Court

The Minneapolis police cop Bradley Schnickel accused of preying on teen girls was back in court.  Schnickel was charged with three counts of attempted or actual third-degree sexual conduct and three counts of engaging in sexually explicit online chats with a minor last month.  Schnickel is out on conditional bond. One of the issues discussed Wednesday was whether the bond conditions would be modified to allow Schnickel to have contact with his two children; the judge said he would not modify the conditions but might revisit it in the future. Authorities began investigating Schnickel after Brooklyn Center police learned a then-unidentified Andover man had used social media to send inappropriate messages to a girl.

Warren was arraigned on a single count of first-degree rape of a child. He is accused in court documents of sexually abusing a 5-year-old girl.

Authorities said he started having improper contact with the alleged victim after being assigned to investigate a rape case involving the girl.

He was charged in Los Angeles Superior Court on four counts each of lewd act on a child and sending harmful matter to a minor, three counts of sodomy of a person under 16 and one count of oral copulation of a person under 16.

Christopher Warren a Beaverton Or. Cop already accused of food stamp fraud was in connection with the sexual assault of a 5-year-old child. He was booked into the Clark County Jail on an accusation of first-degree rape of a child. In 2009, Multnomah County investigators looked into allegations of inappropriate touching of a minor dating back to when Warren was a teen. The case was dropped when the alleged victim declined to cooperate. A year later, Warren was accused of failing to report a crime after a friend was convicted of child sex abuse. He was fired, then reinstated. Last month, Warren pleaded not guilty to unlawfully obtaining public assistance, unlawfully obtaining food stamps and theft.

More accusers have surfaced

ANOKA, Minn. More accusers have surfaced and new charges have been filed against a Minneapolis cop Bradley Schnickel charged with trying to lure underage girls into sexual encounters. Prosecutors say would use social media to meet and lure underage girls.

Seven new accusers have stepped forward, including one allegation coming from a 16-year-old, bringing the number of possible victims to 20. Previous charges alleged he had sex with a 14-year-old girl and sexual contact with three other girls, ages 13 and 14, he met on Facebook, Skype and Tinychat.

Newport News officer indicted on child sex charges

A Newport News grand jury indicted cop Christopher E. Roush, 41, on one count of felony indecent liberties with a child under the age of 15, five counts of misdemeanor obscene sexual display and seven counts of misdemeanor indecent exposure.

Roush was arrested April 7 and charged with two counts of indecent exposure and one count of obscene sexual display after police were called to his home in the 700 block of Harpersville Road for a report of a man exposing himself.

More charges expected against Minneapolis cop

Seven more alleged victims have emerged in the case of Bradley Schnickel, a Minneapolis police officer accused of using social media to try to lure young girls into sexual encounters. To date 32 girls have accused Schnickel, 32, of sending explicit messages and, in some cases, pictures of his genitalia via Facebook and Skype to as many as 20.

NORTHWEST, NC. Cop Michael Hayes  was arrested for solicitation of a minor for prostitution and one count of filing a false report. According to arrest reports, Hayes contacted a then 17-year-old girl on a Craigslist advertisement for a sex act. He then reportedly met the girl and exchanged $60 for the sex act.

 Waltham Mass. Cop Paul Manganelli, who was arrested last March on a federal child pornography charge was taken into custody last week for allegedly violating the conditions of his release. He was discovered using the Internet and accessing Facebook, and was taken into custody last Friday by U.S. Marshals . Manganelli was allegedly commenting on Facebook posts and “liking” pages. The conditions of his release, which were approved by a federal judge last March, specifically prohibited access to the Internet.

Sanford reserve cop arrested on child-molestation charges

A Sanford police officer was relieved of duty after being arrested on child-molestation charges. A 15-year-old girl told investigators in Texas that James Romano touched her inappropriately at his home in Seminole County when she was between 6 and 8 years old, an arrest report states. The touching occurred on two occasions, but "Jimmy" saw her after that and asked whether she had disclosed their "secret," according to the report.  A 13-year-old girl told investigators Romano had French kissed when she was between 6 and 8 years old, the report shows.

Middletown police officer charged with possession of child porn

CROMWELL, CT (WFSB) -

A community is in shock after a  Middletown police officer was arrested Tuesday and charged with possession of child pornography.

Officials said they arrested Samuel DiProto, 61, of Cromwell, after a search of his home.

On March 12 and April 10, a Connecticut State Police detective assigned to the Computer Crimes Unit logged onto a publicly available internet file sharing network and was able to download images and videos of child pornography from a computer connected to the network with an IP address assigned to DiProto.

Officials searched DiProto's home and said they seized computers, hard drives and thumb drives before arresting him.

Diproto retired from the Middletown Police Department back in 2009 after serving 22 years.

Eyewitness News has learned that Diproto lives near a daycare center, which has some parents concerned.

"It does worry me a lot that we do play out here next to this road, so it's scary," said Trisha Merriman.

Eyewitness News knocked on the door at DiProto's, but no one answered.

DiProto appeared in federal court Wednesday to answer to the charges and has been held in jail pending a court appearance scheduled for May 13.

In convicted, DiProto could spend up to 20 years in jail and faces a fine up to $250,000.

Officials said that the matter was "enhanced" because it is alleged that DiProto possessed photos and videos of prepubescent minors and minors under 12 years old.

The worst case is from Bolivia, North Carolina. According to the complaint filed by a minor’s guardian ad litem, a police officer, Jaymin Lenwood Murphy, came to a home to investigate allegations that an adult had sent inappropriate photos via cell phone to a minor child. The officer said he needed to question the minor in private. Once in private, the officer had the minor remove her clothing so he could take photos for his ‘investigative file.’ It gets worse. The officer later returned on minor’s fourteenth birthday and raped her.

The runner-up story comes from Bakersfield, California. A 21-year-old woman called the police to report a burglary. Two deputies arrived and one led her into a room where she was then sexually assaulted under the pretense of a ‘pat-down’ search by the deputy. The authorities did move promptly against this deputy–so good for them.
